About The Assyrian
Cultural Association of Canada
Far beneath the
earth, under a modern war-torn nation, lie the remnants
of
the most ancient of all civilizations. They are hidden from the
sun, but they are not hidden from modern memory. Assyria
was not labelled the cradle of civilization haphazardly. The
technological and cultural advances made by the ancient
Assyrians were left to the modern world as a grand
inheritance. Under that brilliant sun, the Assyrian forefathers
not only forged a new empire; they also forged a great legacy to
all in the modern world. There is no new discovery or invention,
or school of thought that does not have its roots in 'Bet
Nahrain', the land between rivers. Clay tablets yield the
evidence to this fact. Those inventions, teachings and
discoveries were spread throughout the world by trade and a zeal
for increasing knowledge. Today, we see our Assyrian ancestors'
ideas being utilized throughout the entire civilized world.
The Assyrian empire
fell in 612 B.C. The Assyrian people, however, contrary to
popular misconception, have not only survived into the 21st.
century, but they have also maintained their language and
culture. This is our direct tie to that proud and
illustrious history. Currently, Assyrians are spread all over
the Diaspora. Having been the
first Gentile people to accept
Christ and Christianity, Assyrians have maintained their faith
and belong primarily to three sects: the Assyrian Church
of the East, the Chaldean Church, and the Syrian Orthodox
Church.
The Assyrian Cultural Association of Canada was established in
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1997 in order that our ancient
culture and proud ancestral language may be preserved and
maintained.
The Assyrian Cultural Association of Canada has the following
objectives:
-
to provide a
self-sufficient Assyrian media association that is
independent of all political, ideological or religious
organizations and/or movements;
-
to publish and
report truthfully and with a spirit

all issues that affect Assyrians;

history;
